Communication Module
This educational module consists of three parts. The first section, "Communication: An Introduction to Barriers and Solutions," explores factors that may adversely affect interactions between women with disabilities and their healthcare providers. It also examines communication strategies that can be used to enhance patient satisfaction and quality of care.
The second section, "Communicating Using Interpreters and Communication Aids," presents practical tips and resources to help clinicians communicate more effectively with patients who have low vision, low hearing, or speech or cognitive impairment, using appropriate communication aids and interpreters.
The third section, "Women with Disabilities: Effective Physician-Patient Communication," suggests tactics to ensure effective, productive interactions when communicating with this patient population. Covering topics from setting up an appointment to discussing follow-up care, it features women with disabilities talking about their own experiences with the healthcare system, offering advice on how to effectively meet their needs.
